  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Many people who survive an overdose could possibly have to undergo some type of ongoing medical care for the rest of their lives.
  • Hashish users who use the drug in large quantities can experience exacerbation of pre-existing cardiovascular disease, as cannabis use significantly raises the heart rate.
  • Heroin users who snort or smoke the drug often graduate to injection because their bodies become conditioned to the drug and the effects become less intense.
  • How alcohol ultimately effects someone can vary from person to person, depending on whether or not they have eaten, how thirsty they are and even the time of day it is.
  • Successfully treating a drug overdose can be significantly harder if the individual refuses to divulge what type of drugs have been taken. In many instances, trained medical personnel can determine the type of drug that has been used by observing the various symptoms that are exhibited by the patient.

Limited Hospitalization/Day Treatment Programs

Partial Hospitalization, also known as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a type of treatment program which works to treat substance abuse problems and mental health conditions which may be co-occurring. In a PHP program, the individual in treatment participates in a variety of treatment activities and techniques during the day and then returns home in the evening. This takes place anywhere from five to seven days a week, depending on the seriousness of the problem. Partial Hospitalization can be beneficial for addicted persons who cannot afford long-term inpatient care, or who are unable to be away from their families for prolonged periods of time. While in Day Treatment, clients participate in standard counseling and therapy for addiction issues while also addressing mental health troubles which could keep them from staying sober once treatment is complete.
