  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Individuals who start drinking alcohol before the age of 15 are twice as likely to develop an abuse problem and four times as likely to develop alcoholism, versus those who wait to drink when they are 21.
  • The single most common cause of a heroin overdose is from the user combining heroin with alcohol or some other type of central nervous system depressant.
  • For individuals who have struggled long-term chronic drug addiction, episodes of relapse may require a return to prior drug rehab components.
  • Recently in the state of California, drug overdose deaths have raised dramatically, according to many recent news reports. In one instance, a 19-year old Army recruit, who had just recently passed his military physical, took a handful and Xanax and went out drinking with several friends; this person did not ever get the opportunity to serve in the military, as he was subsequently found dead in his vehicle the next morning.
  • Adolescents who drink alcohol are more likely to have unwanted, unplanned, and unprotected sexual activity and physical and sexual assault.

Criminal Justice Client Programs

Criminal justice clients typically need drug or alcohol treatment because of their problems with drug and alcohol abuse. Due to the nature of the criminal justice system, there are distinct steps and guidelines that must be performed in order to be accepted into a criminal justice substance abuse rehabilitation program or recovery program. The first step is to figure out the criminal justice clients eligibility. This step is completed by a panel of officials who decide how much and what type of drug is necessary. Often, the criminal justice clients receive their drug and alcohol rehabilitation while they are incarcerated. For the best possible results, they are encouraged, if not strictly directed, to continue their recovery process once they leave jail and enroll in sober living or a therapeutic community.
