  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Drug addicted individuals often come into contact with the criminal justice system earlier than other health or social systems, which provides excellent opportunities for intervention and drug rehab prior to, during, after, or in lieu of incarceration.
  • Chronic methamphetamine users often experience mental depression associated with withdrawal that lasts longer than the short-term symptoms and is more severe than that of cocaine withdrawal.
  • GHB was studied as a treatment for alcohol withdrawal but is no longer used for this purposes because of the serious risks associated with the drug.
  • Nausea can be an extremely dangerous drug overdose symptom, because many people have died from breathing vomit into their lungs (aspirate).
  • In 2010, approximately one in seven adolescents aged 12 to 17 said that LSD would be "fairly" or "very" easily available.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for addiction is a variety oftreatment program where the addicted individual will stay at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which normally requires a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the recovering addict undergoes an intensive but short duration of treatment that commonly includes a supervised detoxification, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the person to recover and be able to function without drugs in daily life once rehab is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all cases of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or additional treatment in a more long-term residential facility.
