  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Crack cocaine is smoked, delivering a large quantity of the drug to the lungs, producing an immediate and intense euphoric effect.
  • Ecstasy is a chemical derived from the amphetamine family of compounds, which has properties of both stimulants and hallucinogens.
  • Heroin is sometimes mixed with other substances such as sugar, starch, or quinine, which puts unwitting users at risk.
  • Amphetamines, like adrenaline, produce effects in the central nervous system and brain but also the heart, lungs, and many other organs.
  • Crack cocaine does not produce the same intensity of withdrawal symptoms seen in heroin withdrawal, but it is extremely addictive and users who cease using the drug may experience severe drug craving, depression, and lethargy.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug treatment programs which are delivered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient rehabilitation program. An outpatient drug and alcohol treatment facility delivers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation facility where the individual is required to stay and reside at the rehab program until the treatment process is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation is also available for individuals who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but require a thorough aftercare and relapse prevention program which will provide further support and therapy to help them avoid relapse.
