  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Many pharmacists in the United States have often dubbed methadone as the "scary pill", because sometimes people do not get the immediate pain relief that they want from this drug, so they take more than they should, which could potentially result in a fatal overdose.
  • Adolescents who drink alcohol are more likely to have unwanted, unplanned, and unprotected sexual activity and physical and sexual assault.
  • Inhalant abuse may result in a variety of mind-altering effects; some of which can be irreversible.
  • Increased methadone use as an analgesic in the U.S. has come about as physicians search for an opioid drug that can be dosed less frequently than short-acting drugs like morphine or hydrocodone.
  • Because Dilaudid is a potent narcotic, it is often called "drug store heroin" by illicit street users.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues if there is any hope for them to become fully rehabilitated. Some people take drugs or alcohol to relieve symptoms of mental health disorders, and some people take drugs which then, in turn, causes symptoms which are identical to mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety. Addiction rehabilitation professionals know how to differentiate between the two, and can work with clients to correctly treat real mental health disorders in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the person. This has proven to be effective in keeping people with mental health disorders off of drugs and mentally stable and happy.
