  • Amphetamines are often used recreationally among Major League Baseball players who refer to them by the slang term "greenies".
  • Ages 18-24 are the peak years for onset and intensification of the most common mental health problems among youth, including alcohol abuse.
  • Chronic methamphetamine use will almost always result in a tolerance to the drug, and users often try to intensify the desired effects by taking higher doses more frequently or changing the method of administration.
  • Amphetamine overdose is rarely fatal but may lead to a number of different complications including psychosis, chest pain, and hypertension.
  • In 2010, over 11% of individuals aged 12 or older drove under the influence of alcohol at least once in the past year, a rate which was highest among persons aged 21 to 25 (23.4 percent).

Outpatient Treatment

Drug treatment programs which are offered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient rehab facility. An outpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation center delivers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment facility where the person is expected to remain at the rehab program until treatment has been fully completed. Outpatient drug treatment is also available for individuals who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but require a comprehensive aftercare program which will offer further support and therapy to help them remain clean and sober.
