  • Drug rehab can be delivered in a variety of settings including outpatient, inpatient, and residential settings, each having a specific treatment approach but with a number of therapeutic interventions and services being integrated into any given setting.
  • A large body of evidence has concluded that an extremely high percentage of people who die from drug overdoses have a prior history of substance abuse problems.
  • In an emergency room setting individuals will be given oxygen as needed to and may be administered a common antidote for Vicodin overdose known as naloxone; additional action may need to be taken because of the acetaminophen contained in the drug.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues if there is any hope for them to recover completely. Some people take drugs to alleviate symptoms of mental health problems, and some people take drugs which then, in turn, causes symptoms which mimic mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. Drug treatment professionals know how to differentiate between the two, and can work with clients to properly treat real mental health problems in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the person. This has proven to be effective in keeping individuals with mental health disorders off of drugs and mentally stable and happy.
