  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • There are a broad range of overdose victims throughout the United States; these individuals can range from teens that pop pills to get high to middle-aged workers who must take prescription pain medications for a strained back and inadvertently become physically addicted to the drugs.
  • Ecstasy does not cause true hallucinations such as LSD, but many users report distorted time and perception while under the influence of this drug.
  • Current studies conducted by the UCLA School of Public Health have recently concluded that the liberalized prescription of pain medications in the U.S. is the direct cause of the epidemic that this country is currently facing.
  • Alcohol abuse can greatly suppress the immune system, and individuals addicted to alcohol are more susceptible to infections such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, bacterial infections, or HIV/AIDS.
  • Among high school seniors in the U.S., past-year nonmedical use of Adderall and over-the-counter cough and cold medicines remains high at 6.5% and 6.6%, respectively.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for substance abuse is a type oftreatment program where the person will stay at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which usually demands a stay of 30 days or less. While attending residential short-term treatment the person undergoes an intensive but short duration of treatment that usually incorporates a supervised detoxification, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the person become rehabilitated and able to function without drugs in daily life once rehab is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all cases of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential facility.
