  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • An overdose may be accidental, as certain individuals may be unaware that their body may be extremely sensitive to certain prescription medications.
  • As the morphine withdrawal progresses users may experience elevated blood pressure, chills with goose bumps alternating with hot flashes, kicking movements of the legs and excessive sweating, severe pains in the bones and muscles and muscle spasms.
  • About 15 years ago, over three quarters of all heroin users injected the drug, although currently that number has shrunk to 65% as the number of individuals snorting heroin has grown.
  • Hashish users who seek out and take hashish compulsively are dependent and/or addicted to the drug.
  • Alcoholics tend to be more accident prone than drug users even after they quit drinking.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for substance abuse is a variety oftreatment program where the individual will stay at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which typically demands a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the person undergoes an intensive but brief course of treatment that usually incorporates a supervised detoxification, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the individual to recover and be able to function without drugs in daily life once treatment is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all scenarios of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential setting.
