  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • There are a broad range of overdose victims throughout the United States; these individuals can range from teens that pop pills to get high to middle-aged workers who must take prescription pain medications for a strained back and inadvertently become physically addicted to the drugs.
  • Alcohol is responsible for more deaths among male teenagers and young men than any other drug taken which affects mood and behavior including heroin, cocaine or marijuana.
  • Alcohol use slows signal transmission in the brain which may cause some of the effects associated with alcohol intoxication, including sleepiness and sedation.
  • In many instances, drug overdose deaths can be attributed to the amount of time that has lapsed between the initial signs of an overdose, and the time that it takes to administer the appropriate medical treatment.
  • Even individuals who take fentanyl legitimately for pain are putting themselves at risk of dangerous side effects and overdose.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for addiction is a type oftreatment program where the addicted individual will stay at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which typically requires a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the individual undergoes an intensive but brief course of treatment that typically incorporates a supervised detox, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the individual become rehabilitated and able to function without drugs in everyday life once rehabilitation is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all instances of addiction, and most will need an aftercare program or additional treatment in a more long-term residential facility.
