  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Researchers have reported that in order for a person to consume enough marijuana to experience a fatal overdose, they would have to consume almost 40,000 times the amount of THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) required to intoxicate them. For example, if it took an individual 10 hits to become intoxicated, it would take 400,000 hits of marijuana to produce a fatal overdose.
  • Amphetamines have a chemical structure similar to adrenaline and noradrenaline, which are stimulants produced by the human body.
  • About 80% of all identified prenatally alcohol exposed infants of untreated addicted mothers are placed in foster care within the first year of their lives.
  • In one animal study involving cocaine, an addicted monkey pressed a bar 12,800 times until it got a single dose of cocaine.
  • When cocaine is smoked or used intravenously, it greatly increases the risk of a potentially fatal overdose due to respiratory or coronary complications.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for substance abuse is a type ofrehabilitation program where the person will reside at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which usually requires a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the client undergoes an intensive but short duration of treatment that commonly incorporates a supervised detoxification, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the person become rehabilitated and able to function without drugs in daily life once treatment is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all scenarios of addiction, and most will need an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential facility.
