  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Ending methadone treatment is much more difficult than other opiates due to the severity of the related withdrawal symptoms.
  • Inhalant abuse can result in short-term effects that physically slow down normal body functions.
  • Opiods have been reported to suppress activity in portions of the brain that control breathing; consequently, many individuals who experience a drug overdose from these types of drugs die because of a lack of oxygen reaching the body.
  • By using statewide medical examiner reports, researchers were able to determine that of 765 prescription drug-related overdose deaths in New Mexico that over 75% of these deaths were caused by opioid pain medications.
  • You should never break, chew, or crush the OxyContin tablet since this causes a large amount of oxycodone to be released from the tablet all at once, potentially resulting in a dangerous or fatal OxyContin overdose.

Limited Hospitalization/Day Treatment Programs

Partial Hospitalization, also known as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a type of recovery program which works to treat substance abuse issues and mental health conditions which may be co-occurring. In a PHP program, the person in treatment takes part in a variety of recovery activities and techniques during the day and then returns home in the evening. This takes place anywhere from five to seven days a week, depending on the severity of the problem. Partial Hospitalization can be beneficial for addicted individuals who may not be able to afford long-term inpatient care, or who are unable to be away from their families for prolonged periods of time. While in Day Treatment, individuals take part in typical counseling and therapy for addiction issues while also addressing mental health issues which could prevent them from making progress and obtaining gains throughout the treatment process.
