  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Fentanyl is commonly used to treat individuals with severe pain, to manage pain after surgery, and sometimes to treat people with chronic pain who are physically tolerant to opiates.
  • Prescription related drug overdose cases are reported to be more of a problem in rural areas than in urban areas.
  • Hashish users sometimes use the drug as a form of self-medication, particularly for social anxiety.
  • Because Lortab contains hydrocodone and produces effects similar to heroin, the drug is commonly abused and diverted.
  • Overdose deaths can be intentional or unintentional, and they can result from both licit and illicit drug abuse. Drugs commonly implicated in overdose deaths are alcohol, psychoactive medications, analgesics, illicit drugs such as cocaine and heroin, and multiple drugs taken concomitantly.

Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment is offered in a wide variety of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment methods. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be performed on an outpatient basis, where the individual will typically receive treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly helpful in handling more serious cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on different circumstances which can be different for each individual. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the individual physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on underlying psychological and emotional issues which will help them avoid relapse in the future.
