  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • GHB can produce vivid hallucinations as well as excited and aggressive forms of behavior.
  • Heroin is derived from morphine and usually appears as a white or brown powder or as a black, sticky substance.
  • The number of Vicodin overdoses has risen dramatically in the United States, because the drug is much cheaper and some insurance plans do not cover the more expensive prescription pain medications.
  • Heavy alcohol consumption (more than six drinks per day) can cause heart disease in people infected with HIV. Therefore, stopping or cutting down on their alcohol consumption may help to reduce the risk of heart disease.
  • Because heroin users are never truly aware of the actual strength of a single dose of the drug or its true contents, they are at a great risk of overdose or death.

Adolescents (18 and under)

It is a disturbing fact that many adolescents in the United States become introduced to drugs and alcohol at a very young age, and some even become addicted and dependent to drugs and/or alcohol. For adolescents who do become addicted and dependent to alcohol and drugs, parents need to be willing to do whatever it takes to get the problem resolved before it is too late. Any suspicion that drugs or alcohol are in the picture should be confronted immediately, otherwise, addiction will lead down a path of total destruction for the adolescent as well as for the family. There are drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs for adolescents offered in every state, many of which cater only to adolescents and have treatment professionals and counselors on staff that are trained specifically in dealing with this age range.
