  • Although many people are reported to survive, thousands of people in the United States are reported to die from complications that are directly linked to a cocaine overdose.
  • Heavy amphetamine users sometimes commit sudden, violent, and irrational acts as a result of drug-induced distortions of perception and delusions that other individuals are threatening or persecuting them.
  • As of 2008 about 453,000 Americans reported past year heroin use and 213,000 reported past month heroin use.
  • In 2005, among individuals discharged from intensive outpatient drug rehab, men were more likely than women to complete drug rehab or be transferred for further treatment to another drug rehab.

Adolescents (18 and under)

It is a disturbing fact that many adolescents in the United States become introduced to drugs and alcohol at a very young age, and some even become addicted and dependent to drugs and/or alcohol. For adolescents who do become addicted and dependent to drugs and alcohol, parents need to be willing to do whatever it takes to help their child before it is too late. Any suspicion that drugs or alcohol are in the picture should be addressed immediately, otherwise, addiction will lead down a path of total destruction for the adolescent as well as for the family. There are drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs for adolescents available in every state, many of which cater only to adolescents and have treatment professionals and counselors on staff that are trained specifically in handling this age range.
