  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Successfully treating a drug overdose can be significantly harder if the individual refuses to divulge what type of drugs have been taken. In many instances, trained medical personnel can determine the type of drug that has been used by observing the various symptoms that are exhibited by the patient.
  • According to data that has been compiled from the National Vital Statistics System, drug poisoning incidents have accounted for the large majority of all unintentional poisoning deaths in the United States.
  • Cocaine users are at risk of heart attacks, respiratory failure, strokes, seizures, abdominal pain, and nausea.
  • As with all drugs and prescription medicines, individuals who are not using Valium as prescribed are at risk of overdosing on the drug.
  • Because of Lortabs effects on the pleasure centers of the brain, the risk of both physical and psychological dependence to the drug is extremely high.

Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide range of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be done on an outpatient basis, where the individual will typically receive treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the individual to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly helpful in handling more serious cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on unique circumstances which can be different for each individual. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the individual physically rehabilitated, and then focus on the root psychological and emotional issues which will help them avoid relapse in the future.
