  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Individuals who start drinking alcohol before the age of 15 are twice as likely to develop an abuse problem and four times as likely to develop alcoholism, versus those who wait to drink when they are 21.
  • Individuals referred from the criminal justice system to drug rehab in 2005 were 28 percent more likely to complete long-term residential drug rehab or be transferred to other drug rehab programs.
  • Heroin abusers often combine it with other drugs, such cocaine or methamphetamine with heroin (known as speedballing), or use alcohol, marijuana, or tranquilizers to enhance the high and blunt effects of withdrawal.
  • The skyrocketing rate of drug overdoses in the United States is not surprising, as opioid analgesics are increasingly being prescribed to individuals; according to a recent government survey, one in five adults and one in ten kids have received some form of opiate pain prescription within the past year.
  • Methadone overdoses have skyrocket in the United States, because the drug is much cheaper and some insurance plans do not cover the more expensive prescription pain medications.

Dui/Dwi Offender Programs

DUI/DWI offenders are typically required to attend a specific number of hours either in counseling, meetings or a drug or alcohol rehabilitation program. Each state has its own requirements when it comes to sentencing for the DUI/DWI offender. Offenders who are regarded as low to moderate DUI/DWI offenders will typically engage in some form of group counseling or therapy. These are sometimes referred to as "Level I & Level II Alcohol Classes". These meetings are often held by a professional in the field of addiction recovery or a person with long-term sobriety involved in the Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous groups. DUI/DWI offenders considered to be serious offenders will likely have to serve jail time at a minimum before beginning their assigned counseling or alcohol treatment program.
