  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • How alcohol ultimately effects someone can vary from person to person, depending on whether or not they have eaten, how thirsty they are and even the time of day it is.
  • During a cocaine binge the drug is taken repeatedly for many hours or even days and users often experience increasing restlessness, irritability and paranoia and even paranoid psychosis in some cases with auditory hallucinations and a disconnection with reality.
  • Drug rehabs give individuals access to screening for HIV, counseling, and referral to additional services, including early HIV treatment and other HIV resources which can help prevent the transmission and spread of the disease.
  • In 2010, about one in five adolescents aged 12 to 17 said it would be easy to get cocaine (19.0 percent).
  • In cases of a drug overdose that has been determined to be a suicide attempt, a psychiatric assessment will often be required by the hospital before the patient is released.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for substance abuse is a type ofrehabilitation program where the individual will remain at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which normally requires a stay of 30 days or less. While attending residential short-term treatment the individual undergoes an intensive but short duration of treatment that usually incorporates a supervised detox, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the person become rehabilitated and able to function without drugs in daily life once rehabilitation is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all cases of addiction, and most will need an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential setting.
