  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • The number of Vicodin overdoses has risen dramatically in the United States, because the drug is much cheaper and some insurance plans do not cover the more expensive prescription pain medications.
  • Illicit Lortab users often crush the tablet and either ingest or snort it, or inject diluted Lortab pills which can cause a rapid and intense rush over a short period of time, much like heroin.
  • Deaths caused by alcohol dependence in the U.S. are highest among Blacks, although a higher percentage of blacks than whites abstain from using alcohol.
  • Drug detoxification in drug rehab does not on its own handle any the psychological, social, and behavioral issues that accompany drug or alcohol addiction, and therefore does not produce the lasting changes necessary for full recovery and rehabilitation.
  • Individuals who abuse anabolic steroids sometimes take doses that are 10 to 100 times higher than the amount of the drug that has been prescribed by a doctor for medical reasons.

Hospital Inpatient Programs

Hospital inpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation is carried out in a hospital setting and is supervised by doctors and other medical staff. Hospital inpatient treatment is often necessary in the beginning stages of abstinence when the person may experience the onset of life threatening withdrawal symptoms, which is sometimes the case when quitting alcohol as well as a category of prescription drugs known as benzodiazepines which must be supervised very carefully by medical professionals in case of any complications. Hospital inpatient treatment is also delivered to individuals who choose to undergo medication assisted withdrawal, as is the case with opiate addicted individuals who wish to use this type of detox approach to avoid the severe withdrawal symptoms associated with heroin or other opiate withdrawal. This type of opiate detox is not treatment in itself however, and these individuals will need additional counseling and therapy to completely recover from addiction.
