  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Crack is so called because of the cracking sound it makes when it is heated.
  • Hashish creates some negative effects in individuals who are otherwise healthy such as anxiety or depression.
  • Chronic methamphetamine users often experience mental depression associated with withdrawal that lasts longer than the short-term symptoms and is more severe than that of cocaine withdrawal.
  • Ecstasy users who combine the drug with other drugs including alcohol increase their risk of negative effects from the drug or even death.
  • In many areas, crystal meth is cheaper than Ecstasy, at $10 for about one-tenth of a gram whereas an ecstasy tablet can cost twice as much, about $20.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must handle both issues in order to become fully rehabilitated. Some people take drugs or alcohol to alleviate symptoms of mental health complications, and some people take drugs which then, in turn, causes symptoms which are identical to mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression. Addiction treatment professionals know how to differentiate between the two, and can work with clients to properly treat real mental health problems in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the individual. This has proven to be effective in keeping individuals with mental health problems off of drugs and alcohol and mentally stable and productive.
