  • In some areas, crystal meth is being used more than ecstasy as the drug of choice among teenagers and young adults on the rave and dance scene.
  • Around 10% of a dose of PCP is removed by the kidneys, which would make increased urinary clearance ineffective.
  • Depending on how much hashish has been taken, effects can vary depending on the way it is administered.
  • Even moderate doses of Dilaudid cause a fatal drug overdose.
  • Heroin exerts its effects on the brain more quickly than other opiates, which is probably why many opiate addicts prefer heroin.

Hospital Inpatient Programs

Hospital inpatient substance abuse rehabilitation is done in a hospital setting and is supervised by doctors and other medical staff. Hospital inpatient treatment is sometimes necessary in the beginning stages of abstinence when the client may encounter the onset of life threatening withdrawal symptoms, which is sometimes the case when quitting alcohol as well as a category of prescription drugs known as benzodiazepines which must be monitored very carefully by medical professionals in case of any complications. Hospital inpatient treatment is also administered to individuals who choose to undergo medication assisted withdrawal, as is the case with individuals who are addicted to opiates and wish to use this type of detox technique to manage the severe withdrawal symptoms associated with heroin or other opiate withdrawal. This type of opiate detoxification is not treatment in itself however, and these individuals will require additional counseling and therapy to fully recover from addiction.
