  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Alcohol acts as a central nervous system depressant that is rapidly absorbed by the stomach and small intestine into the bloodstream.
  • Because freebase cocaine is resistant to destruction by heat, it can be smoked using cigarettes, including marijuana cigarettes, or in "coke pipes."
  • High concentrations of inhalants in the body may result in death from heart failure or suffocation (inhalants displace oxygen in the lungs).
  • In the workplace, Americans with less than a high school education are much more likely than other education attainment groups to report heavy alcohol use (14.7%, compared with 7.1% for high school graduates, 7.3 for some college education, and 5.8% for college graduates).
  • Higher rates of marijuana use among high school aged youth in the U.S. can be attributed in part to the perceptions that American adolescents have regarding the risks associated with marijuana use.

Limited Hospitalization/Day Treatment Programs

Partial Hospitalization, also known as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a type of rehabilitation program which works to treat substance abuse problems and mental health issues which may be co-occurring. In a PHP program, the individual in treatment takes part in a variety of treatment activities and techniques during the day and then returns home in the evening. This is done anywhere from five to seven days a week, depending on the severity of the problem. Partial Hospitalization can be helpful for addicted persons who may not be able to afford long-term inpatient care, or who are unable to be away from their families for prolonged periods of time. While in Day Treatment, clients participate in standard counseling and therapy for addiction issues while also addressing mental health issues which could keep them from making progress and obtaining gains throughout the treatment process.
