  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • About 15 years ago, over three quarters of all heroin users injected the drug, although currently that number has shrunk to 65% as the number of individuals snorting heroin has grown.
  • An estimated one-fourth of AIDS cases in the United States stem from injection drug use.
  • Recently in the state of California, drug overdose deaths have raised dramatically, according to many recent news reports. In one instance, a 19-year old Army recruit, who had just recently passed his military physical, took a handful and Xanax and went out drinking with several friends; this person did not ever get the opportunity to serve in the military, as he was subsequently found dead in his vehicle the next morning.
  • Bath Salts are produced using amphetamine-like substances such as mephedrone, methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV) which are similar to the amphetamine-like substance metcathinoine found in Cat or Qat.
  • Ecstasy use can cause nausea which could lead to vomiting which greatly increases the risk of death and other health consequences in the event that an unconscious Ecstasy user accidentally suffocates on their own vomit.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for substance abuse is a type ofrehabilitation program where the person will stay at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which typically requires a stay of 30 days or less. While attending residential short-term treatment the individual undergoes an intensive but short duration of treatment that usually incorporates a supervised detox, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the individual become rehabilitated and able to function without drugs in daily life once treatment is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all scenarios of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or additional treatment in a more long-term residential facility.
