  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • GHB was studied as a treatment for alcohol withdrawal but is no longer used for this purposes because of the serious risks associated with the drug.
  • Ecstasy overdose can result in a loss of consciousness, seizures, kidney and cardiovascular system failure, permanent damage to sections of the brain that are critical to thought and memory, and death.
  • Recently in the state of California, drug overdose deaths have raised dramatically, according to many recent news reports. In one instance, a 19-year old Army recruit, who had just recently passed his military physical, took a handful and Xanax and went out drinking with several friends; this person did not ever get the opportunity to serve in the military, as he was subsequently found dead in his vehicle the next morning.
  • Individuals who use Ecstasy often lose touch with time and experience other changes in perception, such as an enhanced sense of touch.
  • Crack withdrawal often causes intense drug craving, irritability and other symptoms which rivals or exceeds that of many other illicit drugs.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for drug or alcohol addiction is a type ofrehabilitation program where the person will remain at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which normally requires a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the client undergoes an intensive but short duration of treatment that commonly includes a supervised detoxification, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the person to recover and be able to function without drugs in everyday life once rehabilitation is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all cases of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential facility.
