  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • During World War II, methamphetamine was given to Axis and Allied troops and factory workers to help them maintain alertness and stay awake.
  • High doses of amphetamines may produce fever, sweating, headache, blurred vision, and dizziness.
  • Individuals who use crystal meth will exhibit very at risks behavior, including sexual binges that include unsafe sex with multiple partners.
  • Individuals who consume alcoholic beverages containing energy drinks are about twice as likely to report being taken advantage of sexually, to report taking advantage of someone else sexually, and to report riding with a driver who was under the influence of alcohol.
  • Many senior citizens who take medications for chronic pain will forget that they have already taken the potent pain medicines; in many of these instances, these elderly individuals will experience a potentially deadly drug overdose as a direct result of their memory lag.

Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment is offered in a wide variety of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be performed on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically attend treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the individual to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly helpful in resolving more serious cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on unique circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the individual physically rehabilitated, and then focus on underlying psychological and emotional issues which will help them avoid relapse in the future.
