  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • An observer of a drug overdose should attempt to maintain a state of calm, and try to get a response from the person by lightly pinching the back of their arm or by calling their name; additionally, if breathing or a pulse rate is not detectable, emergency resuscitation should begin immediately.
  • Heroin users who snort or smoke the drug often graduate to injection because their bodies become conditioned to the drug and the effects become less intense.
  • Fentanyl is commonly used to treat individuals with severe pain, to manage pain after surgery, and sometimes to treat people with chronic pain who are physically tolerant to opiates.
  • Dexedrine withdrawal often causes severe depression and dysphoria, which is basically the opposite of the drugs effects.
  • From 2009 to 2010, about 55% of Americans 12 and older who used pain relievers non-medically in the past 12 months got the drug they most recently used from a friend or relative for free.

Adolescents (18 and under)

It is an unfortunate fact that many adolescents in the United States become introduced to drugs and alcohol at a very young age, and some even become addicted and dependent to drugs and/or alcohol. For adolescents who do become addicted and dependent to drugs and alcohol, parents must be willing to do whatever it takes to get the problem resolved before it is too late. Any suspicion that drugs or alcohol are in the picture should be confronted immediately, otherwise, addiction will lead down a path of total destruction for the adolescent and for the family. There are drug rehab programs for adolescents offered in every state, many of which cater only to adolescents and have treatment professionals and counselors on staff that are trained specifically in handling this age range.
