  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Heroin users who inject the drug put themselves at risks of serious consequences including contracting human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B and C, and other blood-borne viruses.
  • Ecstasy use can cause nausea which could lead to vomiting which greatly increases the risk of death and other health consequences in the event that an unconscious Ecstasy user accidentally suffocates on their own vomit.
  • A number of fatal fentanyl overdoses have been caused by time-release fentanyl patches which were prescribed to legitimate users for pain; a defect caused the patch to malfunction causing an excessive amount of the drug to leak and become absorbed by patients, resulting in life-threatening side effects and death in some cases.
  • Drug rehabs which treat addiction can be delivered in many different settings using a variety of behavioral approaches.
  • An individual who is tripping on LSD may try to flee when they are having a hallucination, or they may become paranoid or frightened and begin to lash out at the people that are around them.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug rehabilitation programs which are delivered on an outpatient basis are available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient treatment facility. An outpatient substance abuse rehabilitation center provides many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment center where the person is required to remain at the treatment facility until treatment is complete. Outpatient drug treatment is also offered for those who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but require a comprehensive aftercare and relapse prevention program which will provide further support and treatment to help them avoid relapse.
