  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Because treatment dropout is a primary concern encountered at drug rehabs, motivational techniques are sometimes used to keep individuals engaged which helps improve treatment outcomes.
  • During the 1960s PCP was widely abused until users became unhappy with the long delay between taking the drug and feeling its effects, and with the unpredictable and often violent behavior which often occurred with its use.
  • Cocaine is most often smuggled into the United States across the Mexican border, where it arrives in powder form and is converted to crack by the wholesaler or retailer.
  • In many instances, emergency medical personnel can determine the type of drug that has been used by observing the various symptoms that have been exhibited by the patient.
  • According to data collected by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), over 18,000 males and approximately 10,000 women died of a drug overdose in the United States during 2007.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol treatment services which are delivered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient rehabilitation center. An outpatient substance abuse treatment program offers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment center where the individual is expected to remain at the treatment center until the treatment process is complete. Outpatient drug rehab is also available for those who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but also need a thorough aftercare and relapse prevention program which will offer further support and therapy to help them avoid relapse.
