  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Heavy amphetamine users sometimes commit sudden, violent, and irrational acts as a result of drug-induced distortions of perception and delusions that other individuals are threatening or persecuting them.
  • GHB use over an extended period of time will ultimately lead to addiction and withdrawal that includes insomnia, anxiety, increased heart rate and blood pressure, and occasional psychotic thoughts.
  • There is a large body of evidence that indicates that relapse is especially high among individuals that continue to associate with individuals who abuse drugs and alcohol.
  • Individuals with co-occurring alcohol and other drug use disorders may have more severe dependence-related problems than those without combined disorders.
  • A drug overdose describes the ingestion of a drug in quantities greater than have been recommended or are generally practiced; this condition can be extremely dangerous and can ultimately result in death.

Adolescents (18 and under)

It is an unfortunate fact that many adolescents in the United States become exposed to drugs and alcohol at a very young age, and some even become addicted and dependent to drugs and/or alcohol. For adolescents who do become addicted and dependent to alcohol and drugs, parents need to take every step possible to help their child before it is too late. Any sign that drugs or alcohol are in the picture should be addressed right away, otherwise, addiction will lead down a path of total destruction for the adolescent as well as for the family. There are drug and alcohol rehab programs for adolescents offered in every state, many of which cater only to adolescents and have treatment professionals and counselors on staff that are trained specifically in handling this age group.
