  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • GHB is a popular drug of choice among partiers and as a "club drug", and is used most commonly among teenagers and young adults because of its euphoric and sedating effects.
  • Anabolic steroids are often brought into the U.S. from Mexico and other European countries.
  • If an individual is experiencing a GHB overdose they will typically have difficulty breathing, a lowered heart rate, convulsions, or in rare instances, death.
  • Drinking four or more alcoholic drinks on any given day or drinking eight or more drinks within a week increases a womans risk of developing alcohol abuse or dependence.
  • Doctors and pharmacies are involved in the illicit diversion of Lortab, which further fuels the wide spread abuse of the drug.

Hospital Inpatient Programs

Hospital inpatient drug rehabilitation is performed in a hospital or similar setting and is overseen by doctors and other medical staff. Hospital inpatient treatment is sometimes necessary in the beginning stages of abstinence when the person may experience the onset of life threatening withdrawal symptoms, which is sometimes true when quitting alcohol as well as a category of prescription drugs known as benzodiazepines which should be supervised very carefully by medical professionals in case of any complications. Hospital inpatient treatment is also delivered to those who choose to undergo medication assisted withdrawal, as is the case with opiate addicted individuals who wish to use this type of detox technique to avoid the severe withdrawal symptoms associated with heroin or other opiate withdrawal. This type of opiate detox is not treatment in itself however, and these individuals will need additional counseling and therapy to fully recover from addiction.
