  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • During 2009, 28% of students reported being a passenger in a car or other vehicle during the past 30 days which was driven by someone who had been consuming alcohol.
  • An observer of a drug overdose should attempt to maintain a state of calm, and try to get a response from the person by lightly pinching the back of their arm or by calling their name; additionally, if breathing or a pulse rate is not detectable, emergency resuscitation should begin immediately.
  • Fatal opioid-related drug overdose poisonings represent the fastest growing segment of overall deaths in the U.S. that are reported to be caused by poisonings.
  • It is important for an observer of a drug overdose to question the patient about what drugs they have taken, as by the time they reach the hospital, they may have be unconscious, and therefore may be unable to communicate.
  • Alcohol slows reaction time and impairs judgment and coordination, skills which are needed to drive a motor vehicle safely. The more alcohol consumed, the greater the impairment.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

When an individual is abusing drugs or alcohol and is looking for help, many effective drug rehab programs accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term rehab facilities accept private health insurance, far more beneficial substance abuse rehab facilities which require an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These rehab facilities which accept private health insurance can differ in terms of treatment curriculum, but those clients who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to attending a drug or alcohol rehab program. For more information, consult with a treatment professional at a drug or alcohol rehabilitation center in your area to see which services your private health insurance will cover.
