  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Many pharmacists in the United States have often dubbed methadone as the "scary pill", because sometimes people do not get the immediate pain relief that they want from this drug, so they take more than they should, which could potentially result in a fatal overdose.
  • During 2004, nearly 20 million Americans reported using tranquilizers non-medically without a prescription or simply for the feeling they caused at least once in their lifetime.
  • Cocaine was a factor in 422,896 emergency room visits in 2009.
  • As cocaine passes through many hands from the importer to the user, it is usually diluted ("cut" or "stepped on") at each stage of distribution from about 95% pure to as little as 1% pure in some cases.
  • A large percentage of unintentional drug overdose deaths are related to the increasing use of prescription drugs that are commonly being prescribed throughout portions of the United States.

Adolescents (18 and under)

It is a disturbing fact that many adolescents in the United States become exposed to drugs and alcohol at a very young age, and some even become addicted and dependent to drugs and/or alcohol. For adolescents who do become addicted and dependent to alcohol and drugs, parents must be willing to do whatever it takes to get the problem resolved before it is too late. Any indication that drugs or alcohol are in the picture should be addressed right away, otherwise, addiction will lead down a path of total destruction for the adolescent and for the family. There are drug and alcohol rehab programs for adolescents available in every state, many of which cater only to adolescents and have treatment professionals and counselors on hand that are trained specifically in dealing with this age range.
