  • About 15 years ago, over three quarters of all heroin users injected the drug, although currently that number has shrunk to 65% as the number of individuals snorting heroin has grown.
  • While a large percentage of people who have had a drug overdose have been reported to recover without experiencing any long term health effects, many of these cases have resulted in death.
  • Ecstasy users who take repeated doses of the drug within a short time span can increase their risk of seizures.
  • Many people suffer needlessly or die from a drug overdose, because the professional medical assistance that is required is not able to be delivered in a timely manner.
  • Indoor marijuana production in the U.S. has been on the rise, although the number of eradicated indoor-grown plants has remained stable.

Adolescents (18 and under)

It is an unfortunate fact that many adolescents in the United States become exposed to drugs and alcohol at a very young age, and some even become addicted and dependent to drugs and/or alcohol. For adolescents who do become addicted and dependent to alcohol and drugs, parents must take every step possible to get the problem resolved before it is too late. Any sign that drugs or alcohol are in the picture should be addressed immediately, otherwise, addiction will lead down a path of total destruction for the adolescent as well as for the family. There are drug and alcohol treatment facilities for adolescents offered in every state, many of which cater only to adolescents and have treatment professionals and counselors on staff that are trained specifically in handling this age range.
