  • Individuals who extract the fentanyl from a time release patch and consume it all at once are receiving far too much of the drug at one time than was ever legitimately intended.
  • Individuals who survive a drug overdose may often need long term health care; this medical care may include kidney dialysis, a kidney or liver transplant, or treatment for heart failure, stroke, or coma.
  • In the 1970s Ecstasy was administered to psychotherapy patients, a practice which was stopped in 1986 when animal studies showed that Ecstasy use caused brain damage.
  • A heroin overdose can be potentially deadly, if an observer does not realize that the symptoms of overdose are far more intense and serious than the actual immediate effects of the drug.

Adolescents (18 and under)

It is an unfortunate fact that many adolescents in the United States become exposed to drugs and alcohol at a very young age, and some even become addicted and dependent to drugs and/or alcohol. For adolescents who do become addicted and dependent to drugs and alcohol, parents must take every step possible to get the problem resolved before it is too late. Any suspicion that drugs or alcohol are in the picture should be addressed immediately, otherwise, addiction will lead down a path of total destruction for the adolescent and for the family. There are drug and alcohol rehab programs for adolescents available in every state, many of which cater only to adolescents and have treatment professionals on hand that are trained specifically in dealing with this age range.
