  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • As of 2005, the most significant predictors of whether an individual would complete drug rehab or transfer to another program to receive further treatment included: alcohol as the primary substance of abuse, less than daily use at admission, being over age 40, having 12 or more years of education, being White, referral to treatment by the criminal justice system, and being employed.
  • Alcohol consumption dilates blood vessels, causing a feeling of warmth but resulting in rapid loss of body heat.
  • Abuse of stimulants such as Adderall can cause also many life-threatening and dangerous side effects because of their effects on the heart and central nervous system, which can lead to a heart attack or stroke.
  • Acetaldehyde is a carcinogenic byproduct of alcohol metabolism which may cause cancer in several ways including by interfering with the copying of DNA and by inhibiting a process by which the body repairs damaged DNA.
  • Methadone overdoses have skyrocket in the United States, because the drug is much cheaper and some insurance plans do not cover the more expensive prescription pain medications.

Dui/Dwi Offender Programs

DUI/DWI offenders are typically required to enroll in a specific number of hours either in counseling, meetings or a substance abuse rehab program. Each state has its own requirements when it comes to retribution for the DUI/DWI offender. Offenders who are considered to be low to moderate DUI/DWI offenders will typically be required to participate in some form of group counseling or therapy. These are sometimes referred to as "Level I & Level II Alcohol Classes". These meetings are typically held by a professional in the field of addiction recovery or a person with long-term sobriety involved in the Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous groups. DUI/DWI offenders deemed to be serious offenders will likely have to serve jail time at a minimum before beginning their mandatory counseling or substance abuse rehab program.
