  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Researchers have reported that in order for a person to consume enough marijuana to experience a fatal overdose, they would have to consume almost 40,000 times the amount of THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) required to intoxicate them. For example, if it took an individual 10 hits to become intoxicated, it would take 400,000 hits of marijuana to produce a fatal overdose.
  • According to recent data that has been compiled by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the group that has reported the highest increases in death by drug overdose within the past several years are reported to be middle-aged white females and teenagers and young adults that are between the ages of 16-24 that live in southern portions of the United States.
  • Drinking alcohol in excess over time can result in psychiatric problems, including depression, anxiety, and suicide.
  • The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is currently examining the prescription histories of individuals who have died from prescription drug overdoses in hopes of identifying markers that are indicative of people at risk of fatal overdoses; this information can be used to enhance the effectiveness of prescription monitoring programs nationwide.
  • Children of alcoholics are more likely to score lower on tests that measure cognitive and verbal skills.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

Some individuals are covered through state financed insurance because they do not qualify for Medicaid. Some states however offer affordable health insurance to those individuals who cannot afford private health insurance plans. State financed health insurance programs will sometimes cover the costs associated with substance abuse treatment at a variety of drug treatment facilities around the country. State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both outpatient or inpatient drug rehab services. To find out which rehabilitation programs will accept state financed insurance, speak with a drug and alcohol treatment professional.
