  • A number of fatal fentanyl overdoses have been caused by time-release fentanyl patches which were prescribed to legitimate users for pain; a defect caused the patch to malfunction causing an excessive amount of the drug to leak and become absorbed by patients, resulting in life-threatening side effects and death in some cases.
  • About 60% of women in the United States have at least one alcoholic drink a year.
  • Hashish users commonly have daily cough and phlegm, symptoms of chronic bronchitis, and more frequent chest colds.
  • Consuming alcohol as a means of coping with negative feelings is a good indicator of heavy drinking as well as drinking problems in 19- to 25-year-olds.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues if there is any hope for them to recover completely. Some people take drugs to relieve symptoms of mental health complications, and some people take drugs which then, in turn, causes symptoms which are identical to mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. Drug rehabilitation professionals know how to differentiate between the two, and can work with clients to appropriately treat real mental health conditions in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the person. This has proven to be effective in keeping people with mental health issues off of drugs and mentally stable and happy.
