  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Drug addicted individuals often come into contact with the criminal justice system earlier than other health or social systems, which provides excellent opportunities for intervention and drug rehab prior to, during, after, or in lieu of incarceration.
  • As the number of people in the United States seeking treatment for chronic pain increases, so will the rate of accidental opioid-related drug overdose cases.
  • Ecstasy use can result in side effects which can persist for days and weeks, some of which can be extremely unpleasant such as muscle tension and involuntary teeth clenching.
  • People who use illicit drugs are at risk for a drug overdose, as there is a fine line between the high that they are seeking and serious injury or death.
  • Crack may be cut with white substances mimicking the appearance of cocaine, and use of toxic adulterants such as levamisole has been documented.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for substance abuse is a variety ofrehabilitation program where the individual will remain at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which usually requires a stay of 30 days or less. While attending residential short-term treatment the person undergoes an intensive but brief course of treatment that commonly incorporates a supervised detox, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the individual to recover and be able to function without drugs in everyday life once treatment is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all instances of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or additional treatment in a more long-term residential facility.
