  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • A drug overdose describes the ingestion of a drug in quantities greater than have been recommended or are generally practiced; this condition can be extremely dangerous and can ultimately result in death.
  • Drug or alcohol withdrawal symptoms can be problematic when these substances have masked long-term malnutrition, disease, chronic pain, or sleep deprivation.
  • In certain people, an interaction that could result in a potentially fatal overdose can take place when alcohol is mixed with cough medicines that contain dextromethorphan; unfortunately, there is no possible way to predict who will experience this particular, life-threatening interaction, and who will not.
  • Ambien sometimes take more of the drug than is actually necessary because they have forgotten that they have already taken their nightly dose which may lead to more intense side effects and risks.
  • Deaths have occurred from combining Xanax with alcohol and other medications as a result of fatal respiratory depression.

Limited Hospitalization/Day Treatment Programs

Partial Hospitalization, also known as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a type of treatment program which works to treat substance abuse issues and mental health conditions which may be co-occurring. In a PHP program, the individual in treatment participates in a variety of treatment activities and techniques during the day and then returns home in the evening. This takes place anywhere from five to seven days a week, depending on the severity of the problem. Partial Hospitalization can be helpful for addicted individuals who cannot afford long-term inpatient care, or who are unable to be away from their families for prolonged periods of time. While in Day Treatment, clients take part in typical counseling and therapy for addiction issues while also addressing mental health issues which could keep them from making progress and obtaining gains throughout the treatment process.
