  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Between 2009 and 2010, lifetime use of Ecstasy by 8th graders increased from 2.2% to 3.3%, past year use from 1.3% to 2.4%, and current use 0.6% to 1.1%. This increase in use follows declines in perceived risk associated with the drug reported over the past several years.
  • Amphetamine users are sometimes more prone to illness due to the fact that they are generally run down, lack sleep, and live in an unhealthy environment.
  • Each year there are many instances of teens that die when they become alcohol intoxicated and pass out in the freezing cold.
  • As of 2005, the most significant predictors of whether an individual would complete drug rehab or transfer to another program to receive further treatment included: alcohol as the primary substance of abuse, less than daily use at admission, being over age 40, having 12 or more years of education, being White, referral to treatment by the criminal justice system, and being employed.
  • A survivor of a drug overdose is often guilt-ridden because of putting their loved ones through such a traumatic ordeal, and is often willing to seek drug treatment in order to avoid the possibility of another such occurrence in the future.

Other Language Programs

Individuals who speak other languages, other than English that is, should be able to receive drug or alcohol treatment which is on par with English speakers. Speakers of other languages should not feel that their treatment opportunities are limited or inferior because they don't speak English. There are quite a few substance abuse rehab centers available which cater to those who speak foreign languages, all of which offer various programs to choose from. For example, some drug and alcohol rehab programs which provide services for people who speak other languages are only short term programs, but there are more long term options available. Foreign language speakers should consult with an addiction professional in their area to choose a drug or alcohol treatment program which would be suitable to their needs.
