  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • If someone takes too much Ecstasy they may experience an overdose which can either cause acute or long term harm and health consequences but can in rare instances even lead to death.
  • Despite all efforts by federal, state or local authorities to stop diversion and abuse, the illicit use of OxyContin is at an all-time high.
  • Ecstasy can interfere with its own metabolism and can reach potentially harmful levels in the body, especially after repeated doses of Ecstasy within short periods of time.
  • Between 2009 and 2010, lifetime use of Ecstasy by 8th graders increased from 2.2% to 3.3%, past year use from 1.3% to 2.4%, and current use 0.6% to 1.1%. This increase in use follows declines in perceived risk associated with the drug reported over the past several years.
  • The use of two or more substances, which is commonly referred to as polydrug use, is contributing substantially to the skyrocketing rates of drug overdoses that are currently being reported throughout the United States.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for drug or alcohol addiction is a type oftreatment program where the addicted individual will remain at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which normally demands a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the individual undergoes an intensive but short duration of treatment that usually includes a supervised detox, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the individual become rehabilitated and able to function without drugs in daily life once rehabilitation is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all cases of addiction, and most will need an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential setting.
