  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Recently in the state of California, drug overdose deaths have raised dramatically, according to many recent news reports. In one instance, a 19-year old Army recruit, who had just recently passed his military physical, took a handful and Xanax and went out drinking with several friends; this person did not ever get the opportunity to serve in the military, as he was subsequently found dead in his vehicle the next morning.
  • If consumed along with alcohol, cocaines effects peak in 30 minutes and last about 3 hours.
  • A heroin addict who was being treated at a methadone clinic in Ohio committed at least seven aggravated robberies in an attempt to finance his 800-mg-a-day OxyContin habit.
  • A survey of non-injection methamphetamine users who were both heterosexual and gay males concluded that these users had more sex partners, were less likely to use a condom, and were more likely to exchange sex for money or drugs, have sex with an injection drug user, or to have a history of STDs; all risk factors for HIV transmission.
  • As cocaine passes through many hands from the importer to the user, it is usually diluted ("cut" or "stepped on") at each stage of distribution from about 95% pure to as little as 1% pure in some cases.

Adolescents (18 and under)

It is an unfortunate fact that many adolescents in the United States become introduced to drugs and alcohol at a very young age, and some even become addicted and dependent to drugs and/or alcohol. For adolescents who do become addicted and dependent to alcohol and drugs, parents need to be willing to do whatever it takes to help their child before it is too late. Any indication that drugs or alcohol are in the picture should be confronted immediately, otherwise, addiction will lead down a path of total destruction for the adolescent as well as for the family. There are drug rehab facilities for adolescents available in every state, many of which cater only to adolescents and have treatment professionals and counselors on hand that are trained specifically in dealing with this age group.
