  • Substance abuse experts in the United States suspect that the rise in meth-related drug overdose deaths are due to fluctuations in the drug's purity levels.
  • By the mid-nineties heroin purity was around 40 percent or higher, but as high as 60-75% in the Northeast.
  • In certain people, an interaction that could result in a potentially fatal overdose can take place when alcohol is mixed with cough medicines that contain dextromethorphan; unfortunately, there is no possible way to predict who will experience this particular, life-threatening interaction, and who will not.

Other Language Programs

Individuals who speak other languages, other than English that is, should receive substance abuse treatment which is on par with English speakers. Those who speak other languages should not feel that their treatment curriculum or treatment setting is going to be any less effective because they don't speak English. There are many drug rehabilitation programs available which provide services to those who speak foreign languages, all of which offer a variety of programs to choose from. For example, some drug treatment facilities which cater to those who speak other languages are only short term programs, but there are more long term options available. Foreign language speakers should seek the advice from a treatment professional in their area to choose a drug or alcohol treatment program which would be suitable to their needs.
