  • The seed of the drug overdose epidemic in the United States were planted long ago by physician's well-meaning attempts at mitigating their patients suffering, and because of the aggressive sales campaigns by pharmaceutical companies.
  • Researchers have reported that in order for a person to consume enough marijuana to experience a fatal overdose, they would have to consume almost 40,000 times the amount of THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) required to intoxicate them. For example, if it took an individual 10 hits to become intoxicated, it would take 400,000 hits of marijuana to produce a fatal overdose.
  • For individuals who are aged 21 or older, emergency department visits involving Ecstasy also typically involve alcohol and cocaine.
  • Ecstasy overdose can result in a loss of consciousness, seizures, kidney and cardiovascular system failure, permanent damage to sections of the brain that are critical to thought and memory, and death.

Dui/Dwi Offender Programs

DUI/DWI offenders are often required to enroll in a specific number of hours either in counseling, meetings or a substance abuse rehabilitation program. Each state has its own requirements when it comes to retribution for the DUI/DWI offender. Offenders who are deemed low to moderate DUI/DWI offenders will typically be required to participate in some form of group counseling or therapy. These are sometimes referred to as "Level I & Level II Alcohol Classes". These group meetings are typically held by a professional in the field of addiction recovery or a person with long-term sobriety involved in the Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous groups. DUI/DWI offenders deemed to be serious offenders will likely have to serve jail time at a minimum before beginning their assigned counseling or alcohol rehab program.
