  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • A depressant overdose is most often characterized by slow or shallow breathing, blue lips, cold or clammy skin, slow or faint pulse, snoring or gurgling noises and unresponsiveness.
  • In many instances, emergency medical personnel can determine the type of drug that has been used by observing the various symptoms that have been exhibited by the patient.
  • A survivor of a drug overdose is often consumed with guilt over putting their loved ones through this traumatic ordeal, and is often willing to seek drug treatment to avoid the possibility of another such occurrence in the future.
  • In 2005, among individuals discharged from intensive outpatient drug rehab, men were more likely than women to complete drug rehab or be transferred for further treatment to another drug rehab.
  • After completing residential drug rehab individuals should enroll in an outpatient treatment program and/or aftercare programs will help to reduce the risk of relapse once a patient leaves the residential setting.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug rehabilitation services which are offered on an outpatient basis are available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient treatment center. An outpatient substance abuse rehabilitation center provides many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug rehab center where the individual is expected to remain at the treatment center until treatment is complete. Outpatient drug treatment is also offered for those who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but also need a thorough aftercare and relapse prevention program which will provide additional support and therapy to help them avoid relapse.
