  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Amphetamines react upon several key neurotransmitters in the brain, including dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine.
  • According to an epidemiologist for the Center for Disease Control, drug overdose death rates are currently more than double what they were during the peak years of crack cocaine mortality in the 1990's, and five times higher than the rates during the year of heroin mortality peak in 1975.
  • Adderall is a medication consisting of amphetamine salts, which act as a central nervous system stimulant.
  • Because heroin users are never truly aware of the actual strength of a single dose of the drug or its true contents, they are at a great risk of overdose or death.
  • Adolescent children of alcoholics are more prone to have symptoms of depression and anxiety such as crying, bed wetting, social problems, being afraid to go to school and nightmares.

Hospital Inpatient Programs

Hospital inpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation is performed in a hospital or similar setting and is supervised by doctors and other medical staff. Hospital inpatient treatment is sometimes necessary in the beginning stages of abstinence when the client may experience the onset of life threatening withdrawal symptoms, which is sometimes true when quitting alcohol as well as a category of prescription drugs known as benzodiazepines which should be monitored very carefully by medical professionals to minimize ant dangerous health complications. Hospital inpatient treatment is also delivered to those who choose to undergo medication assisted withdrawal, as is the case with opiate addicted individuals who wish to use this type of detox approach to avoid the severe withdrawal symptoms associated with heroin or other opiate withdrawal. This type of opiate detox is not considered full rehabilitation and these individuals will need additional counseling and therapy to entirely recover from addiction.
