  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • High doses of PCP may induce seizures, coma, and death, though death more often results from accidental injury or suicide during PCP intoxication.
  • The most common substances that are reported in drug overdose deaths are heroin, cocaine, prescription drugs and alcohol.
  • Nausea can be an extremely dangerous drug overdose symptom, because many people have died from breathing vomit into their lungs (aspirate).
  • Heavy alcohol consumption (more than six drinks per day) can cause heart disease in people infected with HIV. Therefore, stopping or cutting down on their alcohol consumption may help to reduce the risk of heart disease.
  • A drug ring in Maine was dismantled by law enforcement which was responsible for obtaining OxyContin by using forged prescriptions, having them filled at pharmacies in southern Maine and New Hampshire, and covering the costs with their Medicaid cards.

Other Language Programs

People who speak other languages, other than English that is, should be able to receive drug or alcohol rehabilitation which is on par with English speakers. Speakers of other languages should not feel that their treatment curriculum or treatment setting is going to be any less effective because they don't speak English. There are quite a few drug and alcohol treatment facilities available which provide services to those who speak foreign languages, all of which provide a selection of programs to choose from. For example, some substance abuse rehab programs which provide services for those who speak other languages are only short term programs, but there are more long term options available. Foreign language speakers should consult with an addiction professional in their area to choose a drug treatment program which would be suitable to their needs.
