  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Alcohol is the first fuel to be metabolized when combined with carbohydrates, fats and proteins, which postpones the fat-burning process and results in greater fat storage.
  • Individual counseling as part of drug rehab not only focuses on reducing or stopping illicit drug or alcohol use but other areas which may need particular focus such as employment status, illegal activity, and family/social relations.
  • Anabolic steroid use disrupts the normal production of hormones which sometimes causes irreversible changes when an individual abuses them.
  • Methadone is one of the strongest opiates. It has a slow onset of action and a long half-life and causes severe respiratory depression which is usually the cause of death.
  • A high percentage of the individuals who die of a prescription-related drug overdose have mixed the medication with alcohol or other types of illicit drugs.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for drug or alcohol addiction is a variety oftreatment program where the addicted individual will remain at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which usually requires a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the recovering addict undergoes an intensive but brief course of treatment that typically includes a supervised detox, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the individual to recover and be able to function without drugs in everyday life once rehab is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all cases of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or additional treatment in a more long-term residential setting.
