  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • According to a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, drug overdose deaths now outnumber traffic fatalities in the United States; the article concluded that this increase is mostly due to the significant increase in the number of individuals who abuse prescription drugs in this country.
  • When an individual is not highly educated about all aspects of methadone use, including knowing about the way that the drug builds up in the body, they will be at risk for experiencing a potentially fatal overdose.
  • A drug overdose can occur when a person accidentally or intentionally consumes more of a drug than their body can sufficiently tolerate.
  • In order to combat the dramatic increase in accidental drug overdose deaths throughout the U.S., the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is currently recommending tighter regulations, improving awareness through drug education, and supporting professional drug treatment for drug dependence.
  • Female Opana users sometimes report an interruption in their menstrual cycles.

Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide range of distinct treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be performed on an outpatient basis, where the individual will typically participate in treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to reside in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is especially helpful in handling more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on different circumstances which can be different for each individual. Most substance abuse treatment will concentrate on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on the root psychological and emotional issues.
