  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Individuals who are heroin addicted sometimes intentionally induce withdrawal symptoms to reduce their tolerance for the drug, only in an attempt to once again experience the rush when they start taking the drug again.
  • Ecstasy can interfere with its own metabolism and can reach potentially harmful levels in the body, especially after repeated doses of Ecstasy within short periods of time.
  • GHB at street level may contain many other unknown fillers that could potentially be toxic to the user.
  • Emergency rooms visit rates in 2009 made by individuals seeking detox or substance abuse treatment peaked at 188.8 visits per 100,000 population for people between the ages of 21 and 24.
  • The risk of a drug overdose is always greater when using illicit street drugs, because the user can never be sure how strong the drug is that they are taking; ultimately, this can lead to serious, or even fatal consequences.

Limited Hospitalization/Day Treatment Programs

Partial Hospitalization, also known as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a type of rehabilitation program which works to treat substance abuse problems and mental health conditions which may be co-occurring. In a PHP program, the person in treatment participates in various recovery activities and techniques during the day and then returns home in the evening. This takes place anywhere from five to seven days a week, depending on the severity of the problem. Partial Hospitalization can be beneficial for addicted persons who may not be able to afford long-term inpatient care, or who are unable to be away from their families for extended periods of time. While in Day Treatment, individuals participate in standard counseling and therapy for addiction issues while also addressing mental health problems which could prevent them from making progress and obtaining gains throughout the treatment process.
